25 Mar: Talk on F1 car materials

A free talk will explore the materials used in Formula 1 cars, at East Surrey College on Monday 25 March 2019.

Organisers say:

“Sussex & Surrey Area IMechE Committee are delighted to invite you to our McLaren Racing Technical Lecture.

Our speaker Dr Nicholas Brown, has worked for many years in the Formula 1 industry, and is now Deputy Team Leader – Bodywork and Crash Structures at McLaren Racing.

This talk will cover an overview of how design concepts are delivered to track and how a key part of this is the material selection process. Not only are we concerned with the strength and density of components and how this affects the size and weight of parts, but time to manufacture becomes a priority and often impacts the design of components and the selection of materials.

The talk is FREE and open to the general public, but prior registration is required.”

Tickets are available on the organisers’ website.

Date and time: Monday 25th March 2019, 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
Place: East Surrey College, Gatton Point, London Road, Redhill, Surrey RH1 2JX.
