“Store closing” sale posters were put up last week at the Reigate branch of East, at 60-62 High Street, but no date has yet been given for any closure.
East Lifestyle Limited – with 34 stores across the UK – went into administration on 29 January.
A spokesperson for the womenswear retailer said yesterday:
“Currently the Reigate store continues to trade and there have been no redundancies.
The joint administrators are looking at all options available and we will provide an update in the coming days.”
Administrators Geoff Rowley and Phil Armstrong, partners at FRP Advisory LLP, issued a statement last week saying that the chain’s stores continued to trade while plans were looked at. Mr Rowley said:
“Unfortunately East is the latest high street casualty following a tough trading period at the end of last year.
The retailer was making progress to expand its footprint, particularly looking at international opportunities, however it has been unable to secure the necessary funding to realise those plans.
We’re now working closely with all stakeholders to evaluate the options to sell all or parts of the business.”
