A new cafe is coming to what was The Gallery, at 82, High Street, Reigate.
The Gallery – which sold art – closed earlier this year after its owner moved to the Isle of Wight.
Although the new business is a cafe, it will also be called The Gallery – and will maintain a link to the art world.
Artists will be invited to exhibit work on rotation, with a written piece about them, and a price tag, if they so wish.
Jade Shrubsole from the new business said:
“We want to keep the longstanding history of the building going.
We’ve had some great feedback from some local artists and are really looking forward to working with and supporting the local art culture.”
An opening date hasn’t yet been published, but the cafe will stock locally-sourced bread, cakes, snacks and other food.
The plan is to later obtain a licence to serve alcohol including locally brewed beer.
“We also are inviting local businesses and individuals to have the opportunity to use the venue as a place to hold group events – and we ourselves will be holding pop up events, from food, to creative clubs, beauty/fashion nights to networking events.
We are very much wanting this venture of ours to be for the community, and have local people involved at every opportunity.”
