Votes wanted to help upgrade community kitchen

A community lunch being prepared

A Reigate church is asking for your vote, to help raise funds to upgrade a 30-year-old kitchen used by local groups.

The hall at St Mark’s, on Alma Road, is used by the church for monthly community lunches for the elderly, and as part of a night shelter programme.

A breakfast club and toddler group also use the venue, as do local organisations for leisure and social activities.

Now the kitchen needs modernisation, and enlarging to serve more people.

To help raise funds, St Mark’s is taking part in the Aviva Community Fund initiative, where Aviva makes donations to projects from a shortlist selected by the public.

Anyone can vote for free up until 21 November, via the project’s webpage.

St Mark’s says of its plans:

“The current kitchen was initially installed almost 30 years ago: the facilities are now at the end of their useful life and need to be upgraded to meet current regulations.

We are planning to remove the existing kitchen and extend it to create a larger area that will be able to accommodate all the equipment needed for the immediate benefit of our community and for many years to come.”

The church adds:

“Please vote for us and help us to continue to serve our community by having a larger kitchen with better facilities to match the capacity of the hall and meet the needs of the area.”
