Work to reinstate the bank in Tunnel Road, Reigate, is expected to start within the next six weeks.
John Reed, Property Services Manager at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, said: “We have received a number of tenders for the project which we are in the process of analysing. A short list of contractors is being considered. Once we have concluded this pre-contract work we will award the contract but it is anticipated that the work will start on site within six weeks, pending final confirmation from the chosen contractor.”
The landslip occurred in early 2014 and was caused, according to the Council, by “very heavy rain” over that winter.
In February Mr Reed explained: “The fencing and concrete in Tunnel Road relate to work needed to protect the public from any slippage to the bank. Drainage works have been carried out to the top of the bank to reduce the water coming down the slope and we have since monitored the surrounding area for a full season to ensure that there was no further movement.”
