Work on a landslip in Tunnel Road, Reigate, is expected to make further progress in spring 2015.
The landslip occurred in early 2014 and was caused, according to Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, by “very heavy rain” over that winter.
Since then the damaged bank has been clearly visible to those walking down Tunnel Road.
John Reed, Property Services Manager at the Council, explained the current position and next steps:
“The fencing and concrete in Tunnel Road relate to work needed to protect the public from any slippage to the bank. Drainage works have been carried out to the top of the bank to reduce the water coming down the slope and we have since monitored the surrounding area for a full season to ensure that there was no further movement. We’re now coming to the end of a tendering process for the next stage, which is to appoint a contractor to re-instate the bank, and expect a contractor to start the project in the spring.”
