Wagamama’s opening date in Reigate has slipped, with mid-November now being given as an estimate.
The Asian-style restaurant chain had been expected to open its new branch in October, on the corner of Bell Street and Bancroft Road.
Work has been going on at the site in recent weeks, and window advertising has whetted the appetite of passers-by with pictures of some of Wagamama’s signature dishes.
But residents keen to see the chain come to the town will have to be patient a little longer: on Thursday a spokesperson for the company confirmed there isn’t yet an exact date for the opening, adding “we’re hoping for mid-November”.
On the to-do list, a new gas connection is proposed for the restaurant, a spokeswoman from gas company SGN confirmed on Friday. However, she said the project is still in a planning phase so there are no details as yet, including as to whether or not the road or pavement will have to be dug up.
Wagamama first began its bid to open in Reigate around two years ago, with a planning application to change the use of the location from retail to restaurant. A planning battle went on until February this year when the chain won an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.
Planning and licensing permissions are for a ground-floor restaurant seating 134 diners, operating 9am – 11pm.
