1-16 Jun: Surrey Artists’ Open Studios

Painter Celeste C. da Luz will be among those taking part, in Redhill

For sixteen days in June, Surrey artists will be welcoming the public into their studios as part of Surrey Artists’ Open Studios (SAOS), including here in Reigate and Redhill.

This will be the biggest year so far for the event, with 297 artists participating in 180 studios across the county and its borders, 1- 16 June 2019.

As well as a chance to meet and talk to artists in their place of work, visitors will have the opportunity to view demonstrations, buy artwork, enter a free prize draw and even get involved in creative workshops.

Details of what’s happening and when can be found on the SAOS website, which includes an interactive map.

A launch weekend on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June will see artists offering activities exclusive to first weekend visitors, including the opportunity to take part in taster workshops and handling sessions with different materials across the arts and crafts, as well as refreshments especially put on for the weekend.

SAOS coordinator Caitlin Heffernan said of this year’s programme:

“This unique event offers an exciting opportunity to meet artists and makers in Surrey, many of whom are offering the public the chance to get hands on & discover their own creativity through the many workshops and taster sessions.

This year we are also delighted to be offering a number of bursaries to emerging artists taking part for the first time

Whatever your interest, painting, printmaking, glass, ceramics, textiles, jewelry or sculpture, SAOS is a brilliant opportunity to discover the county through the vast network of creative people who live and work here.”

A number of artist trails will help visitors plan a full day out –  details can be obtained when visiting a studio, or on the SAOS website.

Organisers say that during the 2018 event, 16,000 people visited participating studios.
