It looks like there’s been some positive progress in the search for a replacement post office for Reigate town centre, but with things at an early stage.
A Post Office spokesperson said yesterday (28 May) that “we have an applicant with premises”, although no further details were given of the applicant or location.
The spokesperson added “we are keen to restore Post Office service to Reigate as soon as possible”, but that efforts had “inevitably been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic”.
Reigate lost its post office in March this year after national retailer McColl’s decided not to renew the lease on the Martin’s store in the High Street, including the post office franchise located there.
Since then the Post Office (which wasn’t the landlord) has said on a number of occasions that it is keen to find a replacement operator, and placed an advert for the franchise on its website.
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Reigate Business Guild have previously indicated their strong support for a post office returning to the town.
Details of alternative branches can be found on the Post Office’s branch finder webpage.
