Reigate & Banstead Borough Council has said that a man who died last Thursday afternoon, after collapsing in Reigate’s Castle Grounds, was one of its staff.
Emergency services were called to the location shortly after 12.30pm, reports Surrey Live.
Sadly, despite efforts made to help him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The council said in a Facebook post on Friday:
“We are extremely saddened to confirm that it was a member of our staff that passed away yesterday afternoon in Castle Grounds, Reigate.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time.
We are doing all we can to support his work friends and colleagues who are devastated by this tragedy.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the emergency services who attended and members of the public who stopped to help.”
The air ambulance was among the emergency services that responded.
