New awards will recognise borough’s businesses

Entries are now open for the Reigate & Banstead Business Awards, a new initiative organised by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.

The council says the awards have been created to celebrate the diverse range of successful firms in the borough.

Shortlisted businesses will be invited to an awards evening in June hosted by broadcaster and local resident Nicholas Owen.

Cllr Eddy Humphreys, executive member for business and economy, said:

“Our borough is home to an enormous amount of brilliant businesses of all shapes and sizes. We want to recognise all their hard work.

If you own or work for a local business, we urge you to apply – it’s free, simple and a great way to gain well-deserved recognition.”

Eight award categories are available, with a winner and runner-up in each:

  • Large Business of the Year
  • Small Business of the Year
  • Employer of the Year
  • Employee of the Year
  • Business Support Grant Recipient of the Year
  • Customer Service Award
  • Start-up of the Year
  • Social Value Business of the Year

Each category is sponsored by a business from in or around the area, such as Gatwick Airport, accountants Kingston Smith, and headline sponsors Morrisons Solicitors.

Mike Jackson, business development director at Morrisons Solicitors, said:

“We’re excited and honoured to be sponsoring these awards, which will celebrate and recognise the achievements of some of the great businesses we have in our borough.

We can’t wait to see the variety of nominations across all of the categories.”

The awards evening itself will take place at the Reigate Manor hotel on 6 June 2019 with guests having an opportunity to network with peers as well as enjoy a night out with colleagues.

Businesses can enter via a website, with a closing date of 31 March. Anyone can nominate a business for an award, whether they’re part of the business or a member of the public.

This year’s awards will be in aid of two borough-based good causes, Stripey Stork and George and the Giant Pledge. Any profit made from the awards will be donated directly to them.
