Preparations are under way for a family-friendly local music and beer festival in Priory Park this summer, following licensing approval.
Jess Productions will run the festival from Friday 19 – Sunday 21 July (2019), in a ticketed area within the grassed section of the park, and say they are looking for local musicians and food traders to take part.
The firm received the licensing go-ahead at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s licensing committee on 30 November, with permission given for an 11pm finish on the Friday and Saturday, and 9pm on the Sunday, as requested.
However, a condition was imposed that on the Friday and Saturday live music must end by 10pm and recorded music by 10.45pm.
This followed concern from the council’s environmental protection team about noise. That was also one of the topics raised by other speakers at the meeting, including Park Lane Residents Association (which covers a number of roads around the park).
Council officers and Jess Productions were able to agree a number of other conditions prior to the meeting.
Up to 4,999 people will be able to attend the event at any one time, and the licence is annual, for three days each year.
During the meeting, the applicant’s agent said that the idea for the festival had come about after an approach from the council’s Greenspaces team, who had e-mailed Jess Productions suggesting an event.
Asked at the end of December about the approval, and plans for July, Jess Productions said they were delighted to have won permission and were grateful to the council’s licensing and environmental protection teams, adding:
“The finish times for the event of 23.00 (Friday and Saturday) and 21.00 (Sunday) were granted as per our application which we appreciated. For the Friday and Saturday live music was limited to 22.00 and recorded music to 22.45.
Whilst initially the live music limitation set by the Licensing Committee was a little disappointing, we are confident that with an event finishing time of 23.00 and recorded Music to 22.45 we will be able to work in accordance with these limits and still organise a great event for everyone to enjoy and we respect the Committee’s decision.
Given that it is now the end of December, we do have some concerns regarding time constraints in organising and marketing an event for 2019 however we are currently working hard to make this possible. We have the dates of the 19th to 21st July 2019 held with Priory Park’s management team and are hoping to organise a great Festival for the community of Reigate and the surrounding areas to enjoy in 2019.
We are very keen to work with and involve the local community of Reigate in not just attending this event but also being part of actually making it happen and would also like to help support and promote ‘local music and artists’ in and around the Reigate area. So, if there are any businesses, individuals, artists, bands or food traders out there who would like to be part of this event – we would love to hear from you!
Please contact us at email@example.com if you would like to get involved or would just like some more information.”
Jess Productions have previously organised festivals in Oxted.
The council normally charges for use of the park, with published rates for both non-profit and commercial events, although details of this particular arrangement haven’t been published.
Last year the council’s Greenspaces team tried to get a blanket licence for up to ten events a year in the park, so that each event organiser wouldn’t need to make their own application, but that was refused by the licensing committee.
