Official opening for new sixth form centre

L-R: Mayoress (Helen Foreman), Mayor (Cllr Keith Foreman), Mark Tottman, Sir Jon Coles, sixth formers

Dunottar School has held an official opening ceremony for its new sixth form centre, which aims at providing a modern working space with the look and feel of being at university and work.

Sir Jon Coles, CEO of United Learning, opened the building alongside headteacher Mark Tottman, and the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr Keith Foreman, and Mayoress, Helen Foreman.

The building includes silent and collaborative study areas, and social spaces such as a patio, a cafeteria and a ‘rec room’.

The energy efficient building, designed to integrate with the school’s Grade II listed buildings, features natural light, an LED lighting system and an environmentally-considered heating system.

New plants and trees, sympathetic to the historical gardens, were also included.

The Sixth Form Centre was one of two projects which won planning permission last year.

Dunottar, a private school, became part of United Learning in 2014.  That year it also became co-educational, admitting boys for the first time.
