Reigate pupil’s artwork displayed at London gallery

Jazmine with her butterfly drawing

The artwork of a pupil from a Reigate school has been displayed at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London.

Twelve-year-old Jazmine’s pencil drawing of a butterfly earned a “commended” at the WildArt 16 competition, run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

Her artwork, which took two days to draw, was on show at the annual exhibition of the Society of Wildlife Artists, which ran to 6 November.   The event is a key date in the British wildlife art calendar.

Jazmine is a pupil at Dunottar School, and has won local art competitions.  She said:

“I like drawing in my spare time, and I decided to enter the competition to see how my work compares to people’s in a national competition.”

Dunottar’s head of art, Sam Emblem, commented:

“As the Year 8 art scholar, Jazmine continues to produce work of an excellent standard.  I am so very pleased that she is gaining recognition for her abilities outside of school too.”
