Dunottar School in Reigate once again opened its doors to elderly members of the community for its “Caring at Christmas” lunch.

The school welcomed 112 guests for a Christmas meal with carols, performances and bingo.

This is the fifth year Dunottar has hosted the festive event, which is an opportunity for staff and pupils to come together to volunteer to transport guests, serve food and drink, lead singing and compere a game of bingo.

Individual stories that left a particular mark included the guest whose wife recently died and who would be joining the one of the school’s families for a Sunday lunch, the group who made sure they were on a table at the front so they could be in the thick of it all, and a lady who shared that since her son died in Iraq she is alone at Christmas.

One attendee thanked the school for putting the event on and said: “I can appreciate how much time and effort goes into organising something like this.  We all had such a good time.”

The day took place at the school’s site in High Trees Road on Saturday 7 December.
