Knights of Reigate is to close at the end of January 2016.

The department store can trace its history in the town back to 1883.

The business was acquired nine years ago by Tudor Williams (Holdings) Limited.   John Morris, Group Managing Director, explained earlier this week:

“It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of our Knights of Reigate store, which we have traded in the town since 2006.

It has been a difficult decision but due to an increasingly competitive market place we have taken the decision to allow the sale to enable the significant investment into the site that we have been unable to afford.

The business has been sold to a private, family controlled company who have a history of investing and upgrading properties in the South East and in creating vibrant environments and employment opportunities.

We will continue to trade in the store until Saturday 30th January 2016.

We are pleased to say that all staff will be offered alternative employment within the other group Tudor Williams stores, based in Dorking, Cobham, New Malden & Farnham.

We would like to thank all our customers for their loyalty and support over the past nine years & also our Reigate team for their hard work & commitment to the business.

We hope you will continue to support us as we look to trade out our last few months in the run up to the closure on 30th January 2016.”

The Bell Street premises are Grade II listed.
